SummoningAn illegible horned pentagram is to be read as s-u-m-m-o-n-i-n-g as the black bible code is wheeled out.

As much fun as riding in the seat of a wheelbarrow going downhill in a blizzard real slow is Summoning.

Put the debut LP ‘Lugburz’ (No. It doesn’t mean Love birds) on the stereo and get ready to walk the enchanted forest and meet up with trolls, witches and ghouls along the way.

Summoning were part of what was known as the Austrian Black Metal Syndicate (are you scared yet?) along with Pervertum, Trifixion(Aut.), Pazuzu(Aut.)wasn’t that the demon’s name in ‘The Exorcist’ movie?

If you’re not scared yet, I am.

Golden Dawn and Abigor — Abigor being the most engrossingly musical
and prolific of the bunch having put out two handfuls, at least, of darn good Black Metal albums.

‘Lugburz’, the debut LP by Summoning was a static case of waiting for something to happen in the music.

For a twig to fall in the forest and get the natives rumbling.

Haunting keyboards drone and all I see in my mind’s eye is Lurch from the Addam’s Family groaning in slow motion – Aaaaaaaaahh.

Fast forward to 2006’s ‘Oath Bound’ LP and Summoning are still sowing their static seedpods of melody along the footprint marred path in the deep snow in  the dismal, bestial woods.

Yawn.
